Police Inspector Detained in Military Custody Over Alleged Coup Plot Against Tinubu

ABUJA – In a significant escalation of the foiled coup investigation, a serving police officer has been arrested and detained by military authorities over his alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The officer, identified as Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim from Taraba State, was picked up in Abuja by operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA). Security sources confirm he is the 36th suspect now in custody, joining 35 detained military personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Inspector Ibrahim’s arrest followed intelligence from already-detained military suspects who allegedly linked him to the conspiracy, which was uncovered in October 2025. The investigation is being overseen by the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Emmanuel Parker Undiandeye.

The case has drawn intense political scrutiny after DIA operatives also visited former Minister of Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, for questioning. Sylva confirmed the visit but vehemently denied any involvement, describing the allegations as “politically motivated.”

Concerns are mounting over the detainees’ conditions, with reports citing illness, poor facilities, and prolonged incommunicado detention without access to legal counsel or family.

Disclaimer: This report is based on information from security sources. The allegations are serious and remain under investigation. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
