Defence Minister Matawalle: Wike Wrong to Confront Naval Officer

Abuja – The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has stated that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike should not have engaged in a verbal confrontation with a naval officer during a recent land dispute in Abuja.

In a Hausa service interview, Matawalle revealed that Wike had previously contacted the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Naval Staff, who advised allowing military channels to resolve the matter. Instead, Wike chose to personally confront the officer who was “merely obeying lawful orders.”

“The officer did not commit any offence under military regulations,” Matawalle stated, adding that the officer spoke respectfully and conducted himself properly. He emphasized that disrespecting a uniformed officer indirectly disrespects the President as Commander-in-Chief.
