ABUJA — Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have handed over a large quantity of illicit drugs and suspects arrested during operations across the territory to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) as part of ongoing inter-agency collaboration against drug-related crimes .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the handover exercise, which took place on Friday, was announced in a statement on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, personally handed over the recovered substances and suspects to the NDLEA .
Speaking during the handover, CP Sanusi said, “We conducted a massive raid in the FCT. We recovered an enormous quantity of substances. Since the Force and the NDLEA are working in collaboration, we are handing over these drugs and the suspects to you.”
Receiving the items and suspects on behalf of the NDLEA FCT Strategic Command, the Public Relations Officer, ACN Samuel Orji, expressed appreciation for the synergy and assured that the suspects would be subjected to proper investigation and prosecuted in accordance with extant laws .
CDA News Nigeria reports that the operation followed a similar successful raid in July, which led to the arrest of 114 suspects and the recovery of various illicit drugs, including cannabis, Indian hemp, and tramadol, from the Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt routes . This ongoing collaboration highlights efforts by Nigerian security agencies to combat drug trafficking and other related crimes in the capital territory .
