…CP Sanusi Issues Stern Warning as 300 Suspects Arrested in Raids
The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has issued a stern warning to miscreants causing unrest in the nation’s capital to voluntarily return to their respective states of origin or face repatriation.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Sanusi gave the warning on Saturday while parading over 300 suspects arrested at various flashpoints, including uncompleted buildings across the FCT .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the CP revealed that some of the suspects disguised themselves as scavengers and allegedly snatched phones and handbags from unsuspecting residents by breaking into parked vehicles. According to him, the miscreants, who have no identifiable means of livelihood, illegally occupy uncompleted buildings across the capital city .
“If you don’t have a place to stay in FCT, go back to where you are coming from. We will not tolerate people in the presence of searching for livelihood to be committing crimes by snatching phones, breaking into people’s vehicles when parked,” Sanusi said .
“We won’t tolerate or accommodate people who have no business being in Abuja. Those scavengers, crime crackdownwho have no identifiable means of livelihood, we have arrested many of them. They will be screened, then those that need to be repatriated back to their states of origin will be repatriated,” he added .
The police boss said while some of the arrested suspects would be repatriated upon completion of screening, others would be charged to court. Items recovered during the operation included knives, a toy gun, cannabis, and other illicit drugs .
Sanusi vowed that the operation to rid the FCT of crime would be sustained, stating that it is an everyday exercise. “We are going to continue to raid hideouts, we are going to continue to raid scavenger points, especially those in incomplete buildings. We have been mandated by the Inspector General of Police to ensure that we bring this down as much as possible. The raid is going to be an everyday thing,” he added .
The commissioner also cautioned officers involved in the operations against using raids or arrests as an avenue for extortion, intimidation, harassment, or unlawful demands for money, stressing that any officer found engaging in such misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action .
