Federal Government Declares Wednesday, Thursday Public Holidays to Mark Eid-ul-Adha Celebration

The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, 27th May and Thursday, 28th May, 2026, as public holidays in honour of Eid-ul-Adha, the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice.

The announcement was made by Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by Permanent Secretary Dr Magdalene Ajani on Monday in Abuja.

The declaration, the statement noted, reflects the government’s deep respect for the faith and spiritual heritage of millions of Nigerian Muslims joining the global Islamic community in observing this sacred occasion.

Dr Tunji-Ojo extended warm felicitations from the Federal Government to Muslim faithful across Nigeria and the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a festival rooted in the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for fellow human beings.

The government urged all Nigerians to use the holiday period for prayer and sober reflection, seeking divine guidance as the nation continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity.

“It is in the spirit of brotherhood, shared humanity, and national unity that the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyous celebration,” the statement read.
Normal business activities are expected to resume on Friday, 29th May, 2026.
