Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has filed a ₦15 billion defamation suit against an individual identified as the alleged Director-General of a purported agency over claims he described as false and damaging to his reputation.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the suit, filed before a competent court, seeks ₦15 billion in damages over publications and statements allegedly considered defamatory by the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
According to court documents, Gbajabiamila is asking the court to declare the statements defamatory, order their retraction, and restrain the defendant from making or publishing similar allegations in the future. He also seeks an apology and other reliefs the court may deem appropriate.
The legal action follows an ongoing dispute involving the individual, who has reportedly been described in some quarters as the head of a “fake” agency. The matter is expected to be determined through judicial proceedings.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the case adds to a series of recent legal disputes involving allegations of defamation, with the court expected to determine the merits of the claims after hearing both parties.
