APC’s Abia Takeover Bid Gains Momentum as Mascot Uzor Kalu Attends Convention

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The All Progressives Congress (APC)’s ambition to take over Abia State in 2027 gained momentum over the weekend as governorship hopeful, Mascot Uzor Kalu, and other party stakeholders from the state attended the party’s national convention in Abuja.

Kalu, a prominent businessman and younger brother of Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, was seen engaging with party leaders and delegates at the convention, fueling speculation about his growing political aspirations.

“We are here to show that Abia APC is united and ready. The people of Abia deserve a government that aligns with the center. That is what we are working towards,” a source close to Kalu said.

The presence of the Abia APC contingent at the convention comes amid efforts by the party to reposition itself in the state, which is currently governed by Labour Party’s Alex Otti. Party chieftains have expressed confidence that the APC is gaining ground ahead of 2027.

The party’s national leadership has encouraged Abia APC to sustain its mobilization efforts, noting that the state is a key target in the party’s expansion strategy.

Kalu has yet to formally declare his interest in the governorship race.
