The Federal Government has secured the release of six Nigerians who had been detained in Côte d’Ivoire since 2025 following sustained diplomatic efforts.
According to officials, the release was facilitated through the intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nigeria’s diplomatic mission in Côte d’Ivoire, working closely with the Ivorian authorities.
The government said the successful resolution underscores its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of Nigerians living, working, and travelling abroad through diplomatic and consular channels.
Authorities also expressed appreciation to the Government of Côte d’Ivoire for its cooperation throughout the process, describing the development as a reflection of the cordial relationship between both countries.
The freed Nigerians are expected to receive the necessary consular assistance before returning home or making further arrangements in line with applicable immigration and legal procedures.
The Federal Government urged Nigerians abroad to respect the laws of their host countries while assuring citizens that it will continue to provide assistance whenever required through its diplomatic missions.
