…Victims Were Teenage Girls Travelling to Market; Four Others Rescued
Four passengers have died after a boat conveying eight passengers capsized at Dudduru Pond in the Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., at Dudduru Pond, approximately three kilometres from Kwadige Village .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the boat was conveying eight passengers from Kwadige Village to Chai Chai Sabuwa Market when it capsized while crossing the pond. Preliminary information indicates that the incident may have been caused by strong winds at the time of the occurrence.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa State Command, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, confirmed that four passengers, all females, lost their lives in the incident, while four others were rescued.
The deceased victims were identified as Hasiya Mu’azu, 13 years old; Hauwa Lawan, 13 years old; Fatima Lawan, 12 years old; and Dawsiyya Lawan, 13 years old . The four deceased victims were subsequently buried according to Islamic rites.
The four survivors were rescued by farmers working around the pond at the time of the incident. The rescue and recovery efforts were further supported by residents of Kwadige and Kuna Villages, who worked together to assist those affected.
The state commandant, CC Muhammad Ingawa, commiserated with the families of the deceased and the entire Kwadige community. He urged members of the public, particularly communities that rely on boats for transportation, to exercise maximum caution on waterways and avoid travelling under dangerous conditions.
