ABEOKUTA, NIGERIA — The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has convicted 20 drivers for various traffic offences, including overloading and excessive speed, during a special mobile court operation aimed at enforcing road safety regulations .
The mobile court, which sat at the FRSC Command Headquarters in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, on Thursday, March 12, 2026, tried 27 drivers, out of whom 20 were found guilty and convicted. Seven other drivers were discharged and acquitted .
According to a statement by the FRSC Ogun Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, the convicted drivers were penalized with fines ranging from N20,000 to N50,000, depending on the severity of their offences. They were also given the option of community service as an alternative punishment .
“Overloading and excessive speed remain major causes of road traffic crashes in Ogun State and across Nigeria. This mobile court operation is part of our continuous efforts to discourage dangerous driving and protect the lives of motorists and passengers,” Uga said .
The Sector Commander warned that the command would sustain its clampdown on traffic offenders, particularly commercial drivers who engage in dangerous driving, overloading, and speeding, especially during the upcoming Sallah celebrations when traffic volume is expected to increase .
He urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations, adding that the FRSC would not hesitate to prosecute any driver found violating road safety standards .
The special operation was conducted in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Justice and the state judiciary to ensure speedy dispensation of justice .
