The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, is facing intense backlash after disowning a Presidential Council that openly appears in the newly presented 2026 budget.
The controversy erupted when a dedicated allocation for the “Presidential Council on Fiscal Strategy” was spotted in the budget document. However, when pressed by lawmakers, Gbajabiamila denied any knowledge of the council, claiming it was not authorized by the Presidency.
This denial has sparked public outrage. Critics argue that it is impossible for a named council with budgeted funds to exist without executive approval. Many are questioning whether this points to bureaucratic fraud or a cover-up.
Readability analysts note that Nigerians are struggling to understand how public funds can be allocated to an entity the government now disowns. Opposition leaders have demanded an immediate audit, insisting that Gbajabiamila faces backlash for disowning Nigerian Presidential Council listed in 2026 budget and must explain who inserted the controversial line item.
The Presidency is yet to issue an official statement clarifying the council’s status.
