Tinubu Government’s Plot Is to Crush Opposition, But We Will Never Succumb

Presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore has strongly condemned what he calls a “lawless attack” by police on peaceful protesters in Abuja. Speaking after the violent dispersal of demonstrators, Sowore alleged that the Tinubu government’s plot is to crush opposition through intimidation and brute force.

“They want us to bow, but we will never succumb,” Sowore declared. “This regime has turned security agencies against the very people they swore to protect.”

Witnesses reported that armed police officers fired teargas canisters and beat protesters demanding economic relief and electoral reforms. Several persons were arrested, while others sustained injuries.

Sowore, who led the #RevolutionNow movement, accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of sliding into authoritarianism. He urged Nigerians and the international community to take note of the escalating clampdown on dissent.

“You cannot crush the will of millions with bullets and batons,” he added. “Resistance is not a crime; oppression is.”

The police authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident. However, human rights groups have called for an independent investigation into the conduct of officers during the protest.

Despite the crackdown, Sowore vowed that pro-democracy forces would continue to mobilise peacefully. “This fight is for Nigeria’s future. We will not be silenced,” he said.
