OSOGBO — Governor Ademola Adeleke has been re-elected for a second term in office after defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, in Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, declared the result at about 7:24 am on Sunday at the INEC collation centre in Osogbo. Adeleke polled a total of 511,067 votes to win 19 out of the 30 local government areas in the state.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Adeleke won in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, and Osogbo. Oyebamiji won 11 local government areas including Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, and Obokun.
The returning officer declared, “That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 Governorship election and returned elected.” The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third in the poll.
