OSOGBO — Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party is currently leading in the collation of results from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, according to data from the Nigeria Elections Intelligence System .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that results from 303 out of the state’s 332 wards have been collated so far. Adeleke has secured 177,572 votes, representing 50.5 per cent of the valid votes cast, while his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, has garnered 158,588 votes, representing 45.1 per cent. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress is in third place with 5,917 votes .
CDA News Nigeria reports that voter turnout stands at 42.8 per cent, with 361,500 accredited voters out of 845,100 registered voters in the affected areas . The Independent National Electoral Commission has also confirmed that 43.41 per cent of polling units have reported their results as collation enters its concluding stages .
Adeleke, who is seeking re-election, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Accord Party ahead of the poll . He won his first polling unit with 57 votes against Oyebamiji’s 43 votes . The election, cleared for 14 political parties by INEC, was deemed generally peaceful by observers despite reports of isolated violence .
