Governor Fintiri Honoured for Sports Development, Unveils Major Education Reforms

YOLA – Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has been recognized with an Outstanding Contributions to Sports Development award by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).

The award, presented at the Government House in Yola, acknowledges the Governor’s policies that have revitalized sports in the state. Governor Fintiri described the honour as inspiring and reaffirmed his commitment to making Adamawa a hub for sporting excellence, citing the ongoing construction of a world-class stadium.

Simultaneously, at the combined convocation of Adamawa State University (ADSU), Mubi, Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his administration’s deep commitment to transforming education through strategic reforms and innovation.

The ceremony saw 9,225 students graduate, with 42 bagging First Class Honours. Highlighting key initiatives, the Governor announced “Project Wings,” a foreign scholarship scheme that will send 100 students to Turkey, with another 200 slated for Australia and Canada by January 2026.

Further educational reforms include the construction of mega science and technical schools across all 21 local government areas, the establishment of a new College of Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Studies (COTIES) in Gulak, and plans to recruit 5,000 new teachers.
