MAIDUGURI – The Gwoza Youth Forum (GYF) has publicly dismissed reports of a Christian genocide in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, labeling them as false and misleading.
The forum, representing both Christian and Muslim youths, stated that while the Boko Haram insurgency caused immense death and destruction over 15 years, the attacks were indiscriminate and not targeted at any specific religious group.
Addressing journalists in Maiduguri, GYF National Chairman Comrade Bulama Ali Haruna cited the destruction of hundreds of mosques and churches, along with the killings of Muslim and Christian leaders, as evidence that the violence affected all communities.
He warned that narratives singling out one religion distort the facts, undermine reconciliation efforts, and threaten the fragile interfaith peace that has been rebuilt in the area.
The forum called for responsible and objective statements from all stakeholders to preserve unity.
