The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has approved a one-week holiday for civil servants in the state to mark the Easter celebrations.
The directive, which takes immediate effect, is aimed at allowing workers to fully participate in the Christian festive period, which commemorates the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The governor noted that the holiday would also provide an opportunity for rest, reflection, and spiritual renewal among workers across the state.
According to the state government, the decision underscores its commitment to the welfare of workers and recognition of the importance of religious observances in fostering unity and moral values within society.
Easter remains one of the most significant celebrations in the Christian calendar, widely observed across Nigeria and beyond. In Benue State, where Christianity is predominantly practiced, the extended holiday is expected to be warmly received by workers and residents.
Governor Alia further urged citizens to use the period to pray for peace, unity, and continued development of the state and the nation at large. He also called on residents to celebrate responsibly and maintain law and order throughout the holiday period.
The announcement has generated positive reactions among civil servants, many of whom see it as a welcome relief and a chance to spend quality time with family and loved ones.
