IED Explosion Kills Seven on Zamfara Highway, Planted by Fleeing Bandits

At least seven people were killed on Saturday when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated along the Magami–Dansadau highway in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The explosion, which occurred around Yar-gada community, targeted a trailer conveying passengers and farm produce, as well as motorcycle riders, causing widespread panic.

A senior aide to Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal confirmed that the IED was planted by fleeing bandits loyal to notorious leader Dogo Gide, following earlier engagements with troops in the area.

Captain David Adewusi, spokesperson for the Joint Task Force in the Northwest, clarified that the blast was not a result of foreign airstrikes but an IED planted by terrorists.

The incident comes days after Governor Lawal visited communities in the Dansadau axis—the first such visit by a sitting governor since 2011—as part of efforts to address insecurity in the region.
