The Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftahu Gbadamosi, has appealed for calm among residents after debris from United States airstrikes on ISIS targets in Sokoto fell in the Kwara community, damaging buildings and injuring five people.
The incident occurred Thursday night along the Offa-Ijagbo road, where an unidentified object destroyed parts of three buildings. A landlady reported hearing a humming noise before the object struck her property.
Oba Gbadamosi clarified that Offa was not targeted, describing the event as “just like a stray bullet.” He urged the community not to panic and to continue with their Christmas and New Year celebrations peacefully.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed that debris from expended munitions used in joint Nigeria–US operations landed in Offa and Jabo, Sokoto, but stated no civilian casualties were recorded.
The US Department of Defense earlier announced “multiple ISIS terrorists” were killed in the strikes conducted at Nigeria’s request.
