The abducted Ojibara of Bayagan in Kwara State, Alhaji Kamilu Salami, and six other captives have escaped from their kidnappers, community sources confirmed.
The escape followed a daring attack by local vigilantes who engaged the bandits in a fierce battle deep in the forests around the Eku Idaji area, near Igbaja.
The monarch and the other escapees, who were kidnapped on Saturday, are reported to have made contact with their community and are safe, though they had not yet returned as of Sunday evening.
This development comes after the bandits had demanded a N150 million ransom for the monarch’s release, a demand the community was negotiating before the vigilante-led rescue operation.
