Media entrepreneur Dele Momodu has stated that the “continuing marginalisation of the Igbo” is the primary force behind the revived agitation for Biafra. He has joined calls for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
In a post on his X account, Momodu reflected on Kanu’s prolonged detention. He argued that the movement is a response to decades of perceived deprivation faced by the Igbo people in Nigeria.
“I have taken time to listen to his critics,” Momodu wrote, “and discovered most of them only jumped to conclusions without proper analysis of why agitation for Biafra became reignited.”
He emphasized that attempts to “exterminate” Kanu would not solve the underlying problem. Instead, Momodu urged the government to seek a political solution and engage the “geniuses of the South-East” productively.
“I will never support violence,” he added. “But any sensible government will keep the geniuses of the South East very busy, with productive engagements, instead of this rabid hatred.”
Nnamdi Kanu remains in detention, facing trial on charges of terrorism and incitement.
