IGP Orders Immediate Dismissal and Criminal Prosecution of Four Police Officers Over Delta State Killing

Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a decisive and unambiguous directive ordering the immediate dismissal and criminal prosecution of all four police officers implicated in the tragic and widely condemned killing in Delta State, in what is being described as one of the strongest internal disciplinary actions taken by the Nigeria Police Force in recent times.

The order, which has sent a clear and firm message across the entire police hierarchy, signals zero tolerance for extrajudicial conduct, brutality, and abuse of power by officers of the force, regardless of rank or posting.

The four officers, whose identities are being processed through official channels, are to be stripped of their positions with immediate effect and subsequently handed over to appropriate prosecutorial authorities for full criminal trial in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The IGP, in authorising the action, reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the protection of lives and rights of every Nigerian citizen, stressing that no officer found guilty of unlawful killing would be shielded from the full weight of the law.

The Delta State killing had sparked widespread public outrage, with Nigerians across social media platforms and civil society organisations demanding swift justice for the victim and accountability from the police establishment.

Human rights groups and legal practitioners have applauded the IGP’s prompt and decisive response, describing it as a critical step toward rebuilding public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.

The criminal trial of the affected officers is expected to commence shortly, as authorities move swiftly to ensure justice is served without delay.
