Ikpeazu Emerges PDP Convention Committee Chair

Former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has emerged as chairman of the convention planning committee set up by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Nyesom Wike.

Speaking after his emergence, Ikpeazu emphasized the need for unity within the party, stating that collective efforts are required to rebuild trust and reposition the PDP for national leadership.

“Together, we can build trust, we can restore confidence, and we can return the PDP to national leadership,” he said.

The development comes amid ongoing internal challenges within the PDP, with different blocs seeking to assert influence ahead of future party activities, including its national convention.

Ikpeazu’s appointment is seen by supporters as a strategic move to stabilize the party and coordinate preparations for the convention, while also fostering reconciliation among aggrieved members.
However, critics argue that the involvement of key political figures aligned with Wike may further deepen divisions within the party.

Political analysts say the success of the committee will largely depend on its ability to ensure inclusiveness, transparency, and credibility in the convention process.

The PDP continues to navigate internal realignments as it positions itself for upcoming political contests.
