IKWUANO — Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Emmanuel Uke, a philanthropist and community leader from Ikwuano, has sparked a debate on political succession in the local government area, calling for an end to the recycling of political veterans and urging the emergence of vibrant youths in leadership positions.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Dr. Uke, who is the founder of the Ifeanyi Uke Foundation , made the call in a social media discussion where he argued that a man should know when to be a king and when to be a kingmaker . He questioned the political ambition of a principal he described as a former Transition Committee chairman from the 1990s, suggesting that such a figure has paid his dues and should bow out of the race for the state House of Assembly seat.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Uke expressed concern that recycling a politician who has been in the game for over three decades is a “progressive error” that denies opportunities to the many vibrant and progressive youths from Ibere and across Ikwuano. His call comes amid ongoing discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, where stakeholders are increasingly advocating for servant leadership and competence over clannish political arrangements .
Uke’s position echoes the growing sentiment in Ikwuano that the era of tribal bigotry and ethnic sentiments must stop, and the best and most credible candidates—irrespective of their ward or clan of origin—should be allowed to lead.
