ABUJA – The embattled Imo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Austin Nwachukwu, has vehemently rejected his purported expulsion from the party, declaring the national convention in Ibadan an “illegal” gathering with no power to remove him.
In a fiery interview, Nwachukwu, a prominent figure in the Nyesom Wike-aligned faction, argued that the convention violated two Federal High Court judgments which had ordered the party to complete its state congresses before holding any national convention.
He dismissed the entire event as a “jamboree” and an “owambe party” (a term for a lavish social gathering), rather than a legitimate political convention. “Can a non-existent body expel a lawful body? It’s not possible,” Nwachukwu stated, insisting he remains the lawful chairman and would not challenge the “illegal” action in court.
His defiance underscores the deep legal and factional crises plaguing the opposition party.
