The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the public display of the personal particulars and academic credentials of candidates contesting the 2027 presidential election, including those of President Bola Tinubu and his running mate, Vice President Kashim Shettima.
According to CDA News Nigeria, the exercise, which began on Saturday, is part of the provisions of the Electoral Act requiring the publication of candidates’ Form EC9 for public scrutiny.
Documents made available by INEC show that President Tinubu submitted a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University, United States, awarded with honours on June 22, 1979. The documents also include his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate, indicating he served in Oyo State between December 1982 and November 1983.
The records further outline Tinubu’s employment history, including his time at Mobil Nigeria Limited from 1983 to 1992, his tenure as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, and his current position as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from 2023.
The published Form EC9 lists his date of birth as March 29, 1952, while the sections for his primary and secondary school years were entered as “0000,” with only his university qualification specified.
CDA News Nigeria reports that INEC urged political parties, stakeholders and members of the public to inspect the published documents and utilise the legal process where necessary, in line with the Electoral Act.
