TEHRAN — A senior Iranian official has dismissed President Donald Trump’s claim that the United States has total control over the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that the strategic waterway remains under the management and control of the Islamic Republic.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Hossein Taeb, head of Iran’s Basij paramilitary forces affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, made the remarks on Thursday, a day after Trump declared on Truth Social that “The U.S.A. has total control over the Strait of Hormuz” and described the US naval blockade as a “WALL OF STEEL”.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Taeb said the United States had sought to disrupt Iran’s regional influence by launching another war in the strait but had been defeated, despite claiming Iran had neither an air force nor a navy. “Today you see that the Strait of Hormuz is under the management and control of the Islamic Republic,” Taeb stated, adding that Iran was continuing on its path in complete security.
Iran’s top diplomat Abbas Araghchi also rejected Trump’s assertion, warning on X that the US had “long miscalculated due to intelligence failures” and was now making an “even bigger miscalculation” over the strait. The Persian Gulf Strait Authority further emphasised that the waterway remains closed and will not be reopened until Iran’s conditions are accepted.
The escalating rhetoric comes amid heightened military tensions, with the US enforcing a maritime blockade against Iran and Iran demanding conditions including the lifting of sanctions and an end to the war against its allies before reopening the strategic chokepoint through which nearly 20 per cent of global petroleum trade passes.
