UMUAHIA — The Abia State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has strongly condemned recent statements made by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Hon. Chris Nkwonta, describing their public endorsements of Governor Alex Otti as irresponsible, unstatesmanlike, and inimical to the party’s interests .
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the SWC, at its meeting on Monday, August 10, 2026, deliberated on the comments attributed to both leaders. Senator Kalu was reported to have declared on national television that “Governor Otti of the Labour Party will win the governorship election.” Similarly, Hon. Nkwonta publicly stated in the presence of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu that he would vote for Governor Otti in 2027 .
CDA News Nigeria reports that the SWC described the actions as “acts of internal sabotage and anti-party conduct” intended to weaken the party’s electoral machinery. The committee noted that such statements constitute a breach of Article 21.2 (11) of the APC Constitution, 2022 .
The SWC resolved to give both leaders 14 days to tender an unreserved public apology to the party, its leadership, and supporters in Abia State. Failure to comply will result in the constitution of a disciplinary committee and possible sanctions, including withdrawal of political support and privileges .
The communiqué was signed by Hon. Chijioke Chukwu (Chairman) and 16 other SWC members. The party urged members to remain calm and united ahead of the 2027 elections .
