Kefas Suspends Defection Rally Over Kidnapped Kebbi Schoolgirls

JALINGO – Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has suspended his planned defection rally to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in solidarity with the families of the 25 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists in Kebbi State.

The governor announced the postponement in a statement on Wednesday, stating that proceeding with political celebrations would be inappropriate while the nation mourns and security forces work to rescue the kidnapped students.

“During this period of national concern, our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the abducted schoolgirls and the entire Kebbi community. We must stand together as a nation in support of their safe return,” Governor Kefas stated.

The defection rally, which was scheduled for Wednesday in Jalingo, would have marked the formal declaration of the governor’s move to the APC along with the state’s entire political structure that recently collapsed from the PDP.

Security sources confirmed that the joint military and police operation to rescue the students continues intensively, with aerial surveillance and ground troops combing forest areas along the Kebbi-Niger border.

The governor’s decision has been widely praised by political allies and opponents alike as a sensitive response to the national tragedy.
