A rescued nurse from Kwara State, Amirah Salihu, has recounted the harsh conditions she endured after being abducted during the February 3 terrorist attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Salihu spent nearly six months in captivity before her rescue. She said she assisted 10 pregnant women who went into labour while they were held by the terrorists.
Speaking on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, Salihu said she had to help the women deliver their babies without gloves or proper medical equipment.
She said the captives suffered severe deprivation, including poor feeding and exposure to harsh weather. According to her, they were sometimes forced to sleep in the open, including near a river, while heavy rainfall continued.
Salihu said their meals were mainly guinea corn, salt and seasoning, with little or no oil or other ingredients. She added that the abductors sometimes provided fruits but later stopped supplying some food items.
The nurse said the terrorists eventually discovered her medical skills and wanted her to remain with them. However, she refused because she wanted to return home.
She also recalled the attack on her community, saying the terrorists claimed they were acting in accordance with their interpretation of religious teachings.
Salihu further disclosed that two of her brothers were killed during the attack.
Her account highlights the difficult conditions faced by victims of prolonged captivity and the challenges of providing medical care without basic equipment.
