ABUJA, NIGERIA — The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Labour Party has sacked the committee led by Usman and reaffirmed its support for Julius Abure as the party’s National Chairman.
The decision was reached during a NEC meeting convened to address the lingering leadership crisis within the party. Party officials said the move was necessary to restore order and strengthen internal unity.
According to sources at the meeting, the council resolved that the Usman-led committee lacked the legitimacy required to function in its assigned capacity, leading to its immediate dissolution.
In contrast, the NEC reiterated its confidence in Abure’s leadership, urging members and stakeholders to align with the recognized party structure.
The development marks a significant turning point in the ongoing internal dispute that has divided the party in recent months, with factions emerging over leadership claims and organizational control.
Political observers say the decision could help stabilize the party ahead of future political activities, although concerns remain over possible reactions from aggrieved members.
The Labour Party has faced persistent internal disagreements since the last electoral cycle, raising questions about cohesion and long-term strategy.
Party leaders have, however, called for calm, emphasizing the need for unity and collective commitment to the party’s ideals moving forward.
