Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has issued a stern warning to terror groups and individuals seeking to undermine national security, pledging they will face “coordinated and decisive action.”
Ribadu delivered the warning on Thursday in Abuja at a dialogue on conflict prevention in Northern Nigeria, organised by the National Peace Committee, The Kukah Centre, and his office.
“Let me be clear: the Nigerian state remains fully committed to law, order, and the protection of citizens,” Ribadu stated. “Anyone—individual or group—who exploits communities, spreads terror or attempts to undermine national unity will face coordinated and decisive action.”
The NSA highlighted the nation’s security achievements, noting 775 convictions in terrorism-related prosecutions. “Each conviction represents not just a statistic, but a life restored and a community stabilised,” he said.
Despite acknowledging “painful times,” Ribadu emphasised Nigeria’s unique position in a volatile region. “Nigeria remains the only functioning democracy in the entire Sahel, and we must protect that achievement,” he declared. “We will defeat terror. We will restore order. We will not give up, and we will not surrender.”
He called for a “whole-of-society” approach, stressing that sustainable peace requires translating dialogue into concrete actions and empowering local communities to resolve disputes.
“We are going through painful times, but this phase will pass,” Ribadu assured, asking for continued prayers and patience from religious and traditional leaders.
