President Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation for 65 Ambassadors

LPresident Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm a new batch of 65 ambassadorial nominees, significantly expanding his diplomatic appointments.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s request on the floor of the Senate on Thursday. The list comprises 34 career diplomats and 31 non-career appointees.

The new nominations include several high-profile political figures. Notable among the non-career nominees are Abdulrahman Dambazau, former Minister of Interior and former Chief of Army Staff; Senator Folasade Grace Bent (Adamawa); Senator Solomon Ita Enang (Akwa-Ibom); and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim (Ondo). Also nominated is Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State.

Prominent career nominees include Sulu-Gambari Olatunde Ahmed from Kwara State and Segun Ige from Edo State.

This new list of 65 names follows an earlier batch of three nominees—Kayode Are, Aminu Dalhatu, and Ayodele Oke—who have already been screened by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. The new nominees have been referred to the same committee, which has one week to conduct its screening.

The appointments are part of the President’s effort to shape Nigeria’s diplomatic corps and represent the nation’s interests abroad.
