Police Arrest Activist Sowore at Court After Meeting with Nnamdi Kanu

ABUJA – In a dramatic scene on Thursday, security operatives arrested human rights activist Omoyele Sowore at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The arrest happened moments after Sowore met with the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Sowore had attended the court session to show support for Kanu. A viral video showed the two men embracing. Sowore told Kanu, “You will be out!” to which Kanu smiled and replied, “Good to see you.”

Shortly after, Sowore posted a live video showing police officers leading him away. In the clip, he insisted that his lawyer accompany him and that his car follow the police van.

The exact reason for his arrest is not yet known.

Sowore has been a vocal critic of the government’s handling of Kanu’s case. He recently led protests demanding Kanu’s release.

In a related development, Kanu informed the court that he will now represent himself after his legal team withdrew. The judge adjourned the case to allow Kanu time to prepare.
