ABUJA, NIGERIA – In what political observers are describing as a major turning point, camps loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike have reportedly set aside their differences in a bold move to stabilize the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.
After months of tension and internal cracks, the two influential power blocs have chosen to close ranks, signaling a broader reconciliation wave within the main opposition party. Sources close to both camps confirmed that back-channel discussions have yielded a working agreement aimed at presenting a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The party is choosing unity over division. More aggrieved leaders are already opening back-channel discussions,” a party source disclosed.
The development comes as the PDP prepares for its national convention and seeks to rebuild its structures after a protracted leadership crisis that has weakened the party since the 2023 elections.
Political analysts note that a unified PDP could pose a significant challenge to the APC in 2027, particularly if the party successfully reconciles all factions and presents a cohesive platform.
As opposition forces reorganize with renewed purpose, pressure is mounting on the ruling party to consolidate its own base ahead of the next election cycle.
