Lagos Police Declare Activist Sowore Wanted Over Alleged Protest Plot

The Lagos State Police Command has declared activist and politician Omoyele Sowore wanted for allegedly planning to disrupt public peace by inciting disorder and blocking major roads in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, made the announcement on Monday at the Third Mainland Bridge, a location he cited as one of the planned protest sites. He stated that intelligence reports indicated Sowore and his associates intended to stage demonstrations at strategic locations, including the Lekki Tollgate and Freedom Park.

Jimoh described the alleged plan as a “criminal” act that could trigger severe traffic gridlock and endanger lives. He warned that the Third Mainland Bridge was not designed to hold stationary crowds, suggesting that any gathering could pose structural risks.

“Sowore should surrender at the nearest police station or face arrest wherever he is found,” the Commissioner stated, adding that the command was already closing in on him. He also revealed that 13 suspects had been arrested in connection with the planned protest.

The police have deployed officers to key areas and implemented temporary roadblocks and diversions to safeguard peace and protect critical infrastructure. Jimoh urged Lagos residents to go about their normal activities without fear, assuring them that security agencies were fully deployed to maintain order.
