LP ZONES 2027 PRESIDENTIAL TICKET TO SOUTH, COURT DISMISSES LEADERSHIP SUIT

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Labour Party (LP) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the Southern region, a move aimed at consolidating its political base and setting the stage for the next general elections.

The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) announced the zoning decision after a meeting in Abuja, citing the need for equity, national cohesion, and the party’s growing strength in the South. The decision also aligns with the party’s push to build on the momentum from the 2023 elections, where its candidate, Peter Obi, secured significant votes across the region.

In a related development, a Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a suit challenging the leadership structure of the Labour Party. The plaintiffs had sought to nullify the party’s current leadership, but the court ruled that the case lacked merit and upheld the existing NWC.

“The party is now more focused than ever. With this zoning decision and the court’s affirmation of our leadership, we are ready to move forward,” a senior LP official stated.

The zoning decision is expected to shape the party’s internal dynamics, with several Southern aspirants already signaling interest in the ticket. The Labour Party has called for unity among members as it prepares for the 2027 polls.
