Police Arrest Two Suspects in Ekiti Varsity Hostel Robbery

The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the recent armed robbery at a private hostel near Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti.

The dawn attack, which occurred last weekend, saw armed men storm the off-campus hostel, carting away laptops, smartphones, cash, and other valuables. Several students were left traumatized, though no life was lost.

Police spokesperson, ASP Sunday Abutu, said the arrest followed a targeted intelligence-led operation. “Police arrest two over Ekiti varsity hostel robbery after tracing stolen items to a local receiver. We are closing in on other fleeing members of the gang,” Abutu stated.

Items recovered include three laptops, six mobile phones, and a motorcycle used for the operation. The suspects, aged 22 and 25, are currently in custody and will be charged in court upon completion of investigations.

Students have welcomed the development. “We can now sleep a little better, but security must remain permanent, not just a reaction,” said Funmi Adebayo, a 300-level student.

The university management has also announced plans to improve lighting and deploy more private guards around popular off-campus zones. Meanwhile, police have urged students to report suspicious movements and avoid keeping large valuables in hostels.
