…Traditional Rulers Condemn Attacks on Pro-Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor
The Traditional Rulers of the land donor and immediate host communities of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) and the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI), Umudike, have sounded a strong note of warning to individuals and groups fomenting trouble and disrupting the developmental progress of the institutions.
CDA News Nigeria reports that in a statement signed by HRM Eze Ben Oriaku, Dike 1 of Umudike Ukwu, and HRH Eze Linus Onuoha, Ezechi of Itu, on behalf of the Traditional Rulers of Land Donor Communities for MOUAU/NRCRI, the royal fathers said they noted with dismay that the same groups remained deaf and dumb during past administrations, especially the immediate past administration, despite several anti-development actions.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the traditional rulers condemned the recent instabilities and unwarranted attacks on the highly respected Pro-Chancellor and the Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU in their entirety.
“As major stakeholders and host communities, we can no longer tolerate these distractions, as they have cost our communities greatly, especially during the last employment exercise in the University,” the statement read. “We therefore warn all detractors and self-seeking individuals to stop all acts capable of truncating the peace and development of MOUAU and NRCRI forthwith. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.”
The royal fathers’ intervention comes amid the ongoing tenure dispute involving internal Governing Council members at MOUAU, which has seen the Pro-Chancellor, Comrade Fidelis Edeh, accused of unlawfully removing elected Council representatives.
