NASU Seeks Equal Allowances as ASUU in Federal Government Renegotiation Talks

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has demanded equal treatment in the payment of allowances enjoyed by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) during ongoing renegotiation talks with the Federal Government.

NASU argued that non-academic staff members play indispensable roles in the effective administration and operation of tertiary institutions and should not be subjected to disparities in welfare packages.

The union maintained that equity and fairness must guide the ongoing discussions, stressing that all categories of university workers contribute significantly to the growth and stability of the nation’s higher education system.

According to NASU, addressing the concerns of non-teaching staff is crucial to maintaining industrial harmony and preventing disruptions in academic activities across public tertiary institutions.

The union urged the Federal Government to ensure that the renegotiation process reflects the principles of justice, inclusiveness, and mutual respect among the various university-based unions.

The demand comes amid renewed efforts by the government to resolve longstanding issues affecting the education sector, including staff welfare, funding, and conditions of service.

Stakeholders believe that reaching a comprehensive agreement with all unions will help promote stability and improve the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria.
