NDDC Launches Anti-Cultism Drive to Protect Akwa Ibom Students from Gang Violence

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has launched a bold anti-cultism campaign targeting students across Akwa Ibom State, aiming to curb the rising wave of cult-related violence threatening academic communities in the Niger Delta region.

“Our youth are our greatest asset — we will not allow secret cults to destroy their futures or destabilise our campuses.”
The initiative, unveiled at a state-wide sensitisation event, brings together school authorities, community leaders, and security agencies. The NDDC said the campaign will span secondary and tertiary institutions, with counselling outreach, peer-education programmes, and anonymous reporting channels for students.

Officials stressed that cultism remains one of the most dangerous obstacles to youth development in the Niger Delta, contributing to school dropouts, violent deaths, and criminal activity.

The commission pledged sustained funding and monitoring to ensure long-term impact across Akwa Ibom communities.
