NDLEA Busts Drug Smuggling at Lagos Airport

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a consignment of illicit drugs concealed in unusual items at a major airport in Lagos.

According to officials, the seized substances included opioids and methamphetamine hidden inside carton walls,
winter jackets, and cosmetic cream containers, in what authorities described as a sophisticated smuggling attempt.

The agency said the discovery was made during routine screening and intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing the trafficking of hard drugs through Nigeria’s borders

NDLEA authorities noted that traffickers are increasingly adopting creative concealment methods to evade detection, but assured that enhanced surveillance and technology are helping to counter such tactics.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those behind the shipment, while the seized drugs have been taken into custody as evidence.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting public health, warning that offenders will face strict legal consequences.

The interception highlights the continued vigilance of security agencies in tackling the movement of illicit substances through key entry points into the country.
