LAGOS, NIGERIA – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted cocaine cleverly concealed in dried fish at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while also arresting a 65-year-old grandfather for alleged possession of methamphetamine.
In a statement on Sunday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi disclosed that operatives discovered parcels of cocaine hidden inside dried fish packs during the screening of cargo destined for export. The suspect, who attempted to board a flight to a Middle Eastern country, was arrested and is currently in custody.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives arrested a 65-year-old man in his residence in Abuja, where he was found in possession of a significant quantity of methamphetamine. The suspect, a grandfather, claimed he was using the drug for “medicinal purposes.”
“These arrests demonstrate our commitment to tracking drug traffickers regardless of their methods or age,” Babafemi stated.
The agency urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspected drug activities. Both suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.
