IKWUANO, ABIA STATE — Vote counting has commenced at the Ikwuano Local Government Area collation centre for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives primary election for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency — and Hon. Chief Hyginus Chichebem Ndukwe, popularly known as Aku I of Ikwuano, has taken a significant early lead, CDA News Nigeria reports exclusively from the ground.
The NDC’s primaries, scheduled to hold today, Friday, May 29, 2026, were designed to produce candidates across federal and state constituencies in line with INEC’s 2027 election timetable.
With results beginning to filter in from polling units within the Ikwuano LGA, Chief Ndukwe’s strong grassroots network and community support appear to be reflecting in the early figures, as delegates who voted at Ndoro Town Hall earlier today deliver their verdict in his favour.
The atmosphere at the Ikwuano collation centre is tense but calm, with supporters of various aspirants watching closely as collation officials count and record each ballot under the supervision of the NDC primary election committee.
The NDC, led nationally by Senator Henry Seriake Dickson and presidential candidate Peter Obi, had mandated a direct primary process at the constituency level across Nigeria (Blueprint Newspapers Limited) — making today’s exercise a direct expression of the will of registered party members.
Chief Ndukwe, who has campaigned vigorously as a servant leader committed to development, youth empowerment, and grassroots transformation in Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South, is yet to make an official statement as counting continues.
CDA News Nigeria remains on the ground. Full collation results from all three LGA centres — Ikwuano, Umuahia South, and Umuahia North — will be published as declared.
