Anambra Markets Open Partially Amid Tight Security

Markets in Anambra State opened partially on Monday following Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive to end the weekly sit-at-home, though initial attendance was low amid fear and tension.

Early in the day, streets in Onitsha and other parts of the state were deserted, with few traders present at the Onitsha Main Market. Traders who showed up signed attendance registers as mandated by the government.

By noon, more traders began to open their shops, expressing relief and support for the governor’s move to restore full business days.

Heavy security presence was observed in and around major markets, with police and military patrols deployed to deter possible violence or intimidation.

While some traders blamed Soludo for reawakening separatist threats, others hailed the decision as a necessary step to revive the state’s economy.
