Electricity Consumers Paid N2.3 Trillion in 12 Months — NERC

Nigerian electricity consumers paid a total of N2.311 trillion for power supply between December 2024 and November 2025, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Despite the huge payments, NERC reports indicate that distribution companies billed customers N3.005 trillion within the same period but failed to collect N693.49 billion.

October 2025 recorded the highest monthly payment of N210.92 billion, followed by November 2025 at N208.78 billion.

NERC also revealed that 5.3 million customers (44% of registered consumers) remain unmetered, despite the federal government’s N700 billion Presidential Metering Initiative aimed at providing free meters.

Consumer groups and the Minister of Power have warned against DisCos charging installation fees for government-funded meters, calling it exploitation.
