Kenneth Okonkwo Blasts ADC Over VP Choice, Says South-East Deserves Better

Former Labour Party spokesperson and actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its choice of a vice-presidential candidate from the South-South region, arguing that the decision further marginalises the South-East in Nigeria’s political arrangement.

Okonkwo expressed concern that the South-East, despite its contributions to national development and democratic participation, continues to be overlooked in key political decisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, fairness, equity, and inclusiveness should guide political parties in their selection processes to foster national unity and a sense of belonging among all regions of the country.

He warned that sidelining any geopolitical zone could deepen feelings of exclusion and weaken public confidence in the country’s democratic institutions.

The remarks come amid growing political realignments and coalition-building efforts ahead of the 2027 polls, with parties seeking to balance regional interests while strengthening their electoral prospects.

However, the ADC is yet to officially respond to Okonkwo’s criticism, as debates continue over zoning, inclusiveness, and power-sharing in Nigeria’s political landscape.
