Kwara ADC Rejects Deregistration, Says Judgment Politically Motivated

The Kwara State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the judgment ordering the deregistration of the party, describing the decision as politically motivated and a threat to Nigeria’s democratic space.

Reacting to the ruling, party leaders insisted that the ADC remains a legally constituted political platform and vowed to challenge the judgment through appropriate legal channels.

The party argued that attempts to remove opposition parties from the political landscape undermine democratic principles, political pluralism, and the constitutional rights of citizens to freely associate and participate in governance.

ADC officials maintained that the judgment would not weaken the resolve of its members, assuring supporters that the party would continue its political activities while seeking redress in court.

They further alleged that the development was targeted at weakening opposition voices ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant in defence of democracy and the rule of law.

The controversy comes amid growing debates over the future of smaller political parties and the implications of deregistration on Nigeria’s multi-party system.
