NEMA RECEIVES 708 STRANDED NIGERIANS FROM NIGER

MINNA, NIGERIA – The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received 708 stranded Nigerians who were repatriated from the Republic of Niger following escalating tensions and economic hardships in the neighboring country.

The returnees, comprising men, women, and children, arrived at the border post in Niger State on Tuesday, where they were received by NEMA officials in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) and other security agencies.

NEMA North-Central Coordinator, Mr. Eugene Ezeh, confirmed the development, stating that the returnees were profiled and provided with immediate assistance, including food, medical care, and transport allowances to facilitate their onward journeys to their respective states of origin.

“The federal government is committed to ensuring the safe return and reintegration of all Nigerians stranded abroad. These individuals will receive the necessary support to restart their lives,” Ezeh said.

The returnees reportedly left Niger due to a combination of factors, including the recent political instability in the country, economic downturn, and the expiration of residency permits. Many of them had been engaged in trade and other informal sector activities before deciding to return home.

NEMA assured that all returnees would be properly documented and supported as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to manage migration and provide relief to vulnerable citizens.
