ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has firmly rejected the proposed N6 trillion power sector bailout, describing it as a wasteful plan that fails to address the root crisis plaguing the national grid.
Speaking after the union’s Central Working Committee meeting in Abuja, NLC President Joe Ajaero slammed the intervention as a reward for inefficiency, insisting on a total sector overhaul rather than a financial lifeline.
“We will not accept another round of opaque bailouts that leave Nigerians in darkness while operators smile to the bank,” Ajaero stated. The union is demanding a comprehensive reform, including the reversal of what it calls “anti-people” tariffs and a full audit of previous interventions.
The labour centre has vowed mass action if the federal government proceeds without addressing the demands. The N6 trillion proposal has sparked intense debate, with civil society groups backing the NLC’s stance.
